The effect of prone versus supine positioning in mortality among adult patients with moderate to severe acute respiratory distress syndrome: a meta-analysis

چکیده
Methods We used literature search of MEDLINE, Current Contents, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, Google Scholar, Science Direct, and HighWire Press to identify relevant RCTs for our meta-analysis. We used the following search strategy and MeSH/key terms: (prone OR prone ventilation) AND (ARDS OR acute respiratory distress syndrome). We limited our search to clinical trials. No limits are set for language of publication. We performed manual search of the references from original studies and review articles to identify any additional relevant trials and increase completeness. We searched for electronic conference proceedings of the American Thoracic Society and unpublished and ongoing trials in ClinicalTrials.gov and Current Controlled Trials. Odds ratio with 95% CI was computed for dichotomous outcomes using Mantel-Haenszel and random-effects model.

Background : Neonatal period is one of the most important periods in human's life. Low birth weight and immaturity is often the cause of death. (weight less them 1000grm and pregnancy less than 30 weeks). One of the main cause of death in this period is respiratory distress syndrome. Objective : To determine the effect of prone and supine positioning oxygenation in preterm infants with resp...

OBJECTIVE The survival benefit of prone positioning during mechanical ventilation for acute respiratory distress syndrome has been a matter of debate. Recent multicenter randomized controlled trials have shown a significant reduction of 28-day and 90-day mortality associated with prone positioning during mechanical ventilation for severe acute respiratory distress syndrome. We performed an up-t...

CONTEXT Post hoc analysis of a previous trial has suggested that prone positioning may improve survival in patients with severe hypoxemia and with acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). OBJECTIVE To assess possible outcome benefits of prone positioning in patients with moderate and severe hypoxemia who are affected by ARDS. DESIGN, SETTING, AND PATIENTS The Prone-Supine II Study, a mul...

Prone positioning has been used for many years in patients with acute lung injury (ALI)/acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), with no clear benefit for patient outcome. Meta-analyses have suggested better survival in patients with an arterial oxygen tension (PaO2 )/inspiratory oxygen fraction (FIO2 ) ratio <100 mmHg. A recent randomised controlled trial was performed in ARDS patients afte...
متن کاملThe effect of prone positioning on mortality in patients with acute respiratory distress syndrome: a meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials
INTRODUCTION Prone positioning (PP) has been reported to improve the survival of patients with severe acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). However, it is uncertain whether the beneficial effects of PP are associated with positive end-expiratory pressure (PEEP) levels and long durations of PP. In this meta-analysis, we aimed to evaluate whether the effects of PP on mortality could be affe...
